Mint Chocolate Chip

Wearing vintage coat and blouse.
It was such a beautiful weekend. Went out to the grove and shopped around wearing this minty ensemble.

ZARA

What girl can resist Zara? This one definitely can't. Upon stepping foot in the grove store this weekend, surrounded by an array of sequins, studs, and silk, I immediately knew I had made a grave mistake. In my futile attempt to save money, Zara is not my ally.

Until I get a job, the lookbooks will have to satiate my appetite, and impulse buys will be a thing of the past. Good thing I have this vanilla feast in front of me.

cousin it

I love faux fur. Love it. For months before I moved to L.A. my mind waged a small, internal battle each time I would spot an amazing fur coat. Practicality vs. lust: a never-ending saga. Luckily, my practical side won, and I headed down here two weeks ago, sans fur coat and with enough shorts to last me for years.

Fear not though, I did end up with my fur fix in a slightly altered form. Fur purses are my current obsession. My first investment was a grey and brown number purchased for $13.50, complete with a broken zipper and torn lining. And when I saw a furry black thing at h&m a week later, I couldn't resist.

Two furry bags in and counting, I have a sense my collection is far from over.

monochrazy

White isn't the only color that I prefer in large doses this season. Nothing exudes more of an effortless cool than a monochromatic ensemble. Mint is my drug of choice this season, but reds, blues, and purple hues can all pack a punch. You can never have too much of a good thing.

shades of white

Among the hundreds of things I'm excited for this spring, endless sightings of white on white on cream on white definitely factors in there somewhere. I find it odd that a color I used to neglect, even shy away from, has now made it to staple status in my wardrobe. Sure everyone has their classic, broken-in white tee, but the fashion faux pas of no white shoes after labor day has never claimed me as an offender. Though perhaps the fact that I don't remember the last time I owned white shoes has something to do with that. And the dietary restrictions that come into play when rocking this pale color palette, (knowing me I must sacrifice any colored beverage whatsoever), has always led me to lean towards black as my simple go-to.

This season, however, black will reign no more. Nothing looks more fresh or crisp than a white button down paired with a white blazer and even some white shorts if your feeling spicy. It provides a toned down alternative to the monochromatic trend, and a satisfying way to kiss this winter weather goodbye. Helllooooo California

Organic

I don't know what it is that I love so much about this season's sporty-chic trend. Perhaps the fact that I can make a swift transition from the gym to work with just a top change has something to do with it... John Patick seamlessly incorporates this athletic-inspired style into his new line, Organic, where he boldly proclaims heather grey as the new black, and leather and mohair as the textiles of the season. Topping it off with sheer socks and impeccable styling, the line is a definite contender in this season's best. I am drooling.

The Red Balloon

Tribal print is dead, galaxy print is dying, and I have yet to see a suitable ink-blot print in a lower-end label. So what is next for the print-lovers of the world? Although polka dots and stripes consistently comprise lovely basics, they just don't have enough uumph to carry the prestigious title. So why not have balloon print take over?

Co/Te, an Italian design team highly focused on minimalism, showed the print in their s/s 12 collection. It worked to enliven the otherwise basic collections and provide a dose of much needed color and humor to the bleak colors and serious silhouettes.

2 days of spring

So yes, just a mere post or two back I droned on and on about finding a winter coat for the bitter cold that I must endure, living in the arctic climate of Portland, Oregon. Buuuut, as luck would have it, God must have read my blog and interpreted it as a plea, as he has decided to send me to sunny California this week. I have an interview in LA, and thus will be heading there, and away from coat weather entirely, this Thursday.

Naturally, coming from a girl who spends her free time previewing her wardrobe in the mirror, springtime outfits have been cycling through my head since I booked the flight. And not to say that I haven't donned my bright pink pants in the dead of winter, but it just feels so right to compliment the sunshine rather than compete with it.

This past week, as I made my daily scroll through the street style blogs, my attention was shifted from outerwear to spring ensembles. I'm so excited to go outside with nothing on but a dress, to wear a skirt without layering tights underneath, and to sport my brightest sweater without worrying whether it is season appropriate.

But for all this excitement, my outfit choices better be exquisite during my time there, considering my stay will last about two days...

chloƩ

ChloĆ© delivered one of my favorite pre-fall collections this season combining minimalist shapes with interesting prints and textures. Claire Waight Keller drew inspiration for the line from street-style photography of the 60s and 70s, reminiscing on a time when fashion had an easy elegance and was never too conscious or overworked.
